I inherited house that my not yet ex has been renting from my mom. No rent increase in 10 yrs & I sent notice.?
He is refusing. Mom was too intimidated by him to raise rent but I can't afford sky high property taxes, Windstorm & Structural Landlord Insurance without raising it to more than fair amount. He refuses because when my dad bought house in 1991 so mom could have income when he passed away, there was a verbal agreement that when WE wanted we could move on to a rent to own basis. Paperwork was never drawn up, Dad died in '99 & I left him in '04 & Mom died in July. I inherited the house, & was ready to use that as a source of income for myself since he's does take care of it & I don't want to live there. (Bad vibes) Our 14 yo daughter lives with me & he offers no support. I sent notice to increase rent on Monday & he verbally told 18 yo son he won't pay. I sent 2nd letter informing him I was new owner & if he didn't comply I would file formal eviction. Again told son he won't pay. I'm under assumption verbal agreement with deceased is null and void. Does he have any kind of rights? I'm in Texas & will be divorcing him as soon as I move back to city I've been in since 1990. I left to another county to take care of mom after cancer diagnosis in May. TIA for any help!

Young, healthy adults going w/o health insurance?
Why do young, healthy adults assume they don't need health insurance and/or think it's smart to go without? They still need pap smears, birth control and check-ups. All it takes is a cancer diagnosis or an injury, maybe a devastating injury, to send medical expenses through the roof. I don't understand the logic behind this section of the population going without health insurance. It isn't smart. Any thoughts?
